Teenage & Adult Acne
Acne affects people of every age. Nurse Lisa offers clinical acne skin consultations and in-clinic skin treatments at The Glow Co. Aesthetics in Gordon Park, Brisbane, for teenagers and adults.
Acne at every age
Acne is a skin condition driven by a combination of sebum production, bacterial activity, skin cell turnover and inflammation. It affects people across all age groups. Teenage acne is typically hormone-driven during puberty. Adult acne is increasingly common and is often linked to hormonal shifts, stress, skincare habits or a combination of factors. Nurse Lisa assesses acne at a skin consultation and builds a treatment plan matched to your skin, your history and your lifestyle.
Why does acne occur?
-
01
Hormones. Fluctuations during puberty, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and perimenopause all influence sebum production and acne activity.
-
02
Genetics. Family history is a strong predictor of who develops acne and how persistent it is likely to be.
-
03
Sebum production. Overactive oil glands contribute to clogged pores and the inflammatory response that causes acne lesions.
-
04
Bacteria. Cutibacterium acnes plays a role in inflammatory acne, particularly in more persistent or severe presentations.
-
05
Skincare habits. Over-cleansing, using products that do not suit your skin type, or inconsistent routines can worsen acne over time.
-
06
Lifestyle factors. Sleep quality, stress levels, diet and hydration all influence the skin's inflammatory response and its ability to recover.
Acne skin treatments at The Glow Co.
Nurse Lisa takes a full history at the skin consultation, including skin type, acne history, hormonal history, current skincare and any previous treatments or GP management. The consultation produces a personalised in-clinic treatment plan and a step-by-step home skincare prescription using Murad Skincare. Every patient leaves with a take-home Murad care pack selected for their skin. For patients where in-clinic peel treatment is appropriate, Nurse Lisa uses the Murad professional peel system matched to your skin.

Simple. Evidence-Informed. No Drama.
Teenagers respond best to a routine they understand and can manage on their own. Nurse Lisa explains the why behind every step — not just what to use, but what it does and why consistency matters more than complicated regimens.
Many patients who have completed this appointment have reported meaningful improvement in their skin, with parents noting it has reduced the need to pursue harsher prescription options. A gentle, targeted Murad routine used consistently is often far more effective than starting with aggressive interventions.
The printed prescription goes home with your teen — complete with product images, application steps, morning and evening routine instructions, and tips for staying consistent. No guessing, no forgetting what was said at the appointment.
Nurse Lisa speaks directly to the teen, at their level. Parents are welcome to sit in and are included in the conversation — this is a team appointment, not a one-way lecture.
