Understanding lip concerns
Plain-language information about lip shape, volume, definition and proportion — and the unhurried consultations that help you make considered, individual decisions about your cosmetic care.
You must be 18 years or older to book an aesthetics consultation at The Glow Co. Aesthetics.
What lip concerns can include
Lips change with age like the rest of the face. The concerns patients bring to consultation vary: loss of natural definition, asymmetry that has developed over time, fine lines around the mouth, or simply the sense that the lips no longer match the rest of the face. Sometimes it is curiosity — an honest question about what is and isn’t possible. Individual variation matters more here than almost anywhere else. Nurse Lisa’s approach to lip concerns is conservative: the best cosmetic care of the lips is the kind that honours your natural face rather than transforming it.
Why does this happen?
-
01
Loss of definition — the natural lip border and shape can become less defined as collagen decreases with age.
-
02
Volume changes — lip volume gradually decreases with age, often becoming noticeable from the mid-30s onward.
-
03
Lines around the mouth — small vertical lines develop from years of expression and accumulated sun exposure.
-
04
Asymmetry — small natural asymmetries that were always present can become more visible with age and structural change.
-
05
Sun exposure — UV damage affects delicate lip skin particularly noticeably over time.
-
06
Genetics and natural variation — every set of lips is different, and family history influences how they change.
What a consultation can cover
Nurse Lisa will offer a thorough assessment of lip shape, proportion and its relationship to the rest of your face. She will have an honest conversation about what you are noticing and why, and what is and isn’t achievable. Where appropriate, she will facilitate a discussion with a prescribing medical practitioner about clinical suitability, and provide realistic information about risks and considerations. There is never any pressure to proceed.
