Understanding pigmentation concerns

Pigmentation is one of the most common — and most frustrating — skin concerns for people living in the Brisbane climate. Here’s what’s happening, why, and what genuinely helps.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN

What pigmentation concerns can look like

Pigmentation takes several forms. Sun spots and age spots are localised areas of excess melanin caused by cumulative UV exposure. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — often called PIH — appears after skin trauma, acne or inflammation. Melasma is a hormonal pigmentation common in women, characterised by symmetrical patches on the face. Uneven skin tone may be a combination of all three. Each type has different drivers and responds differently to treatment. Pigmentation is treatable in most cases, but rarely eliminated entirely — and any approach that promises otherwise is not being straight with you. Realistic improvement with consistent care is the achievable and honest goal.

YOUR NEXT STEP

What we offer for pigmentation at The Glow Co.

Pigmentation responds best to a combination approach: the right in-clinic treatments, targeted at-home skincare, and rigorous daily sun protection working together over time. In-clinic, we offer treatments through Murad Skin Treatments and skin needling — both of which can support surface renewal and pigmentation improvement. At home, the Murad pigmentation range provides evidence-based actives, and daily SPF is non-negotiable for any pigmentation concern.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions we often hear

Can pigmentation be completely removed? +
Honestly, rarely. Most pigmentation can be significantly improved with the right combination of treatments and skincare, but complete elimination is uncommon and any clinic that promises it isn’t being straight with you. Realistic improvement is the right goal, and it’s achievable with consistent care.
Why does my melasma keep coming back? +
Melasma is hormonally driven and notoriously stubborn. It can flare with sun exposure, heat, hormonal changes and even stress. Managing melasma is a long game — it’s about minimising flares and maintaining gradual improvement, not eliminating it permanently.
Is SPF really that important? +
Yes — completely non-negotiable. Without daily SPF, every other pigmentation treatment is fighting against new UV damage. SPF is the foundation. We stock Airyday because it’s the SPF Lisa actually trusts and wears every day.
