Understanding fine lines & wrinkles
Plain-language information about why fine lines and wrinkles develop, what’s happening in your skin, and the considered conversations that can help you make informed decisions about your cosmetic care.
You must be 18 years or older to book an aesthetics consultation at The Glow Co. Aesthetics.
What are fine lines and wrinkles?
Fine lines and wrinkles develop as part of the natural ageing process — but not all lines are the same. Dynamic lines appear with facial expression and fade when your face is at rest; these form from years of repeated muscle movement. Static lines are visible at rest and represent more established changes in skin structure. Most people develop a mix of both, and understanding which you have — and what may be contributing — is one of the most useful things a consultation can clarify. Neither type is a problem to be fixed; they’re a conversation to be had on your own terms.
Why does this happen?
-
01
Natural ageing — collagen and elastin decline gradually from the mid-20s onward, reducing skin structure and resilience.
-
02
Sun exposure — the single biggest accelerator of visible skin ageing in the Brisbane climate. UV damage accumulates over decades.
-
03
Repeated facial expressions — patterns of movement formed over years of smiling, squinting and frowning leave lasting marks.
-
04
Genetics — family history influences when and how your skin shows ageing, and how quickly those changes progress.
-
05
Lifestyle factors — smoking, chronic dehydration, disrupted sleep, high stress and nutrition all influence skin structure.
-
06
Skincare history — years of inconsistent routines, harsh products or inadequate sun protection compound over time.
What a consultation can cover
A consultation with Nurse Lisa at The Glow Co. is a private, unhurried conversation. She’ll offer an honest assessment of the type of lines you have and what may be contributing, discuss what’s possible without pressure, and — where appropriate — facilitate a conversation with a prescribing medical practitioner about clinical suitability. You’ll leave with realistic information about timelines and considerations, and a conversation about skincare and lifestyle that may help. There is never any pressure to proceed with anything.
