Tinted Sunscreen as Makeup: SPF50+ With a Glow
One of my favourite shortcuts to recommend is a good tinted sunscreen. It protects your skin and evens your complexion in a single step, which on a busy morning can replace your base entirely. Here is how to use tinted SPF50+ as makeup, and who it suits best.
What tinted sunscreen does
A tinted sunscreen is a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sheer wash of colour added. It gives you the daily UV protection your skin needs, while the tint blurs redness and unevenness for a healthy, natural finish. The iron oxides that create the tint may also offer some extra defence against visible light, which is relevant for pigmentation.
Using it as your base
On a low-key day, prepped, moisturised skin plus a tinted SPF is often all you need. Smooth it over the face and neck, let it settle, then add concealer only where you want a little more cover. The bestselling Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen gives a sheer, luminous tint, while the award-winning Mineral Mousse SPF50+ sets to a soft, natural finish. Both live in the Airyday SPF50+ range.
Pair it with mineral makeup
Tinted SPF is a beautiful partner to mineral makeup. Once your sunscreen is on, a little Guiya Cheeky Liquid Blush and a touch of Golden Hour Illuminator finish the look in minutes, with everything sitting lightly on the skin. It is the easy, glowy, makeup-light approach I love for everyday and for bridal mornings, which I also cover in our wedding skin preparation.
One reminder
Used as your only sun protection, a tinted sunscreen still needs to be applied generously and reapplied every two hours outdoors to deliver its SPF50+ rating. A thin layer for colour alone will not protect you fully. For help choosing your shade and finish, book a skin consultation in Brisbane.
