Caring for your skin health & hydration

Healthy, well-hydrated skin is the foundation for everything else. Understand what your skin needs, what may be working against it, and the in-clinic treatments and skincare that support long-term skin health.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN

What does healthy, hydrated skin actually mean?

Skin health is built on two foundations: hydration (water content within the skin) and moisture (lipid barrier function that holds water in). They are related but different, and many people have one without the other. When the skin barrier is compromised, tightness, dullness, sensitivity and the appearance of fine lines all worsen — regardless of how much product you use. Healthy, hydrated skin is not about achieving a specific look; it is about maintaining a functional, resilient barrier that protects and recovers well. It is also the foundation on which every other aspect of skin care — from actives to in-clinic treatments — is most effective.

What we offer at The Glow Co.

Both in-clinic treatments and at-home skincare play a role in supporting skin health. A skin consultation with Nurse Lisa is the best way to get a personalised assessment of what your skin actually needs — and what may not be serving it. The clinic stocks an expert-curated range of skincare from Murad and Airyday, available in clinic and online, with recommendations based on your individual skin rather than a generic protocol.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions we often hear

How do I know if my skin is dehydrated or just dry? +
Dry skin is usually a long-term skin type — it lacks oil and feels rough or flaky. Dehydrated skin is a temporary condition — it lacks water and feels tight, looks dull, and shows fine lines more clearly. Many people are dehydrated without knowing it. A skin assessment can clarify which you have and what to do about it.
What’s the single most important thing for skin health in Brisbane? +
Daily SPF, every day, all year round. The Brisbane UV index is high enough that sun damage is the single biggest accelerator of every visible skin concern — fine lines, pigmentation, texture changes, loss of firmness. We stock Airyday because it’s the SPF Lisa actually trusts to wear daily.
Do I need in-clinic treatments or can I just use products at home? +
Both have a role. In-clinic treatments do things home skincare can’t — supporting collagen production, addressing texture concerns, and providing professional assessment. Good home skincare maintains results between visits. Most patients benefit from a combination, and a consultation can help you find the right balance.
